Sensuality & Feeling
“It’s the dancing. It got me out of my head and into my body, made me see everything more clearly.”
Liz Byrski; Author “Belly Dancing for Beginners”
Thinking is central to the Masculine realm, Feeling to the Feminine. Over thousands of years of patriarchy, thinking became superior while feeling was denigrated. In the West we live in a world where thinking rules supreme and we are collectively paying a very high price for it.
“Thinking has become a disease. Disease happens when things get out of balance. For example, there is nothing wrong with cells dividing and multiplying in the body, but when this process continues in disregard of the total organism, cells proliferate and we have disease. The mind is a superb instrument if used rightly. Used wrongly, however, it becomes very destructive. To put it more accurately, it is not so much that you use your mind wrongly – you usually don’t use it al all. It uses you. This is the disease. You believe that you are your mind. This is the delusion. The instrument has taken you over.”
Eckhart Tolle – Spiritual Teacher; from “The Power of Now”
In Unveil programs our first stop on the road to experiencing more of the Feminine in our lives is increasing sensuality and feeling. We will feel our way through life instead of thinking it. This is surprising simple to do. When we despise our bodies, we disconnect from them. A reclaiming of women’s bodies needs to happen for women to live happily inside their skin. Our bodies are not our enemies. They should not be a source for shame. Your body is amazing. Your body holds your wisdom. It is the way to the Heart (Feminine). The healing dance of Middle Eastern women, known in the west as “Belly Dancing”, is a tool used in Unveil workshops and it can help women experience this shift from the mental to the sensual in a very gentle and organic way:
“Through dancing people understand their feelings. Through the movement of the body the heart opens”.
Tapping into that body wisdom gives a woman great power. We are intuitive all-knowing beings, held back only by our minds. During the first stop of an Unveil Program, you will learn how to will let your mind (Masculine) take a back seat, and listen to your wise, amazing, informative body. Alexandra Pope says in her book about the menstrual nature of women:
“Our collective discomfort around menstrual blood has its source partly in the excellent tutoring we’ve received in devaluing all that is female. But our loathing of the blood also speaks volumes about the fear of entering the deep world of female knowledge that lies in the experiences of the female body. It is as if our psyche senses this knowledge, but we don’t want to know what the psyche knows. Because to know challenges the basis of how we conduct our lives. It could radically upset our apple cart and everyone else’s too”.
Alexandra Pope; Author “The Wild Genie – The Healing Power of Menstruation”
Shifting your everyday focus into your body, sensing your body in the moment, physically feeling the moment, breathing and holding your posture in a way that serves you; all of these actions open a door to an inner power and wisdom which is inside every woman. This is central to Unveil practice.
